PRESS RELEASE MARCH 18 2025

Press Release

Rusk Chamber of Commerce Transitions to a Virtual, Member-Run Model,Empowering Local Businesses and Community Engagement

The Rusk Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce a transformative shift in its operations, moving from a traditional, staff-run organization to a dynamic, member-run virtual chamber. This exciting new model will enable the Chamber and its business members to operate in a more efficient and cost-effective manner while fostering deeper connections within the community.

“We’ve been listening, and we hear you. By transitioning to a virtual, member-run model, we are empowering our members to take ownership of the Chamber’s activities and initiatives. This is an exciting step forward that will allow us to harness the collective

expertise and energy of our business leaders,” said Kelli Dover (Rusk Women’s Center), Board Chair of Rusk’s Chamber of Commerce. As the needs of small businesses evolve, the Rusk Chamber of Commerce recognizes the importance of adapting to the changing landscape of technology in the business environment. “We are embracing the power of technology and adapting to the modern needs of our community. This change will provide more flexibility, better services, and increased opportunities for our members to collaborate and take an active role in shaping the future of our business community,” shared Dana Philibert (Cherokee ParcelPost), Rusk Chamber’s Treasurer. The new virtual chamber structure will rely on the capabilities of the Chamber’s executive committee members, each bringing their unique skills and experience to the table. The Chamber’s operations will be carried out through online platforms, allowing for virtual meetings, events, and member-driven initiatives as well as face-to-face networking and business development opportunities. With this transition, the Chamber will continue to support local businesses, offering expanded networking opportunities, marketing support, and access to valuable resources while keeping overhead costs

minimal.“We aim to streamline decision-making, operational efficiency and ensure that the Chamber’s initiatives align with improving effectiveness and growth for our members,” shared Alyssa Walley (Aly-Bee’s), Executive Committee member. “We are focused on leveraging the strengths and expertise of our members to better serve the business

community,” said Executive Committee member Doug Hassell (Hassell Cattle Co.). “We are all excited for Rusk to grow and thrive and the Chamber Board is committed to making sure that happens. I look forward to being a part of this new direction,” highlighted President-Elect Tracy Gonzales (CASA of Trinity Valley).

The virtual model also allows the Chamber to broaden its reach, offering more flexibility for members to engage at their convenience, whether from home, office, or on the go. This move aligns with modern business practices while continuing the Chamber’s mission to drive economic development, support local entrepreneurs, and foster a thriving business environment.

“As a long-time member of the Chamber, and as current VP, I can share that we are all aware of the challenges in the local economy. By streamlining the Chamber, we are ensuring the best stewardship possible for our members’ investments. Many positive things are happening in Rusk with new businesses coming to town and the Texas Railroad once again running from Rusk. We are all committed to helping the Chamber reach its potential in these changing times,” Mark Raiborn (Birmingham Golf Club)

The Rusk Chamber of Commerce remains dedicated to creating opportunities for local businesses, fostering innovation, and nurturing a strong, connected community. With the new virtual, member-driven structure, the Chamber is poised to provide even

greater value and support to its members, ensuring that Rusk continues to thrive through collaboration. Brittany Thacker, the Chamber’s Executive Director, helped create the committee infrastructure and Executive Committee training to ensure a smooth transition to a member-run Chamber. “This will create an even stronger, more resilient Chamber of Commerce that reflects the forward-thinking mindset of our local businesses,” Thacker reflected. Past-Board Chair, Stephanie Guynn (Texas National Bank, Rusk) shared, “We all owe our outgoing Executive Director Brittany Thacker a huge thank you as she has helped us move forward and encouraged us to embrace technology while playing to the strengths of our members. Brittany’s training of the Executive Committee and Board members on their new roles taking on Brittany’s responsibilities proves hiring for knowledge is essential but hiring for heart matters most.”
